DJI Matrice drone photographing a high-rise facade at close range in Singapore

Drone facade inspection in Singapore

Drone facade inspection uses an unmanned aircraft to photograph a building’s exterior at close range, replacing gondolas and scaffolding for the survey stage. Pitch Perfect Systems carries out the full Periodic Facade Inspection workflow (permits, capture, defect mapping and Professional Engineer endorsement) for building owners and managing agents across Singapore.

Your building may be subjected to PFI (Periodic Facade Inspection)

Under Singapore’s Periodic Facade Inspection regime, in force since 1 January 2022, the building owner must appoint a Competent Person, a Professional Engineer or Registered Architect certified in facade inspection, to inspect the facade every 7 years and have any defects found repaired. Landed houses and temporary buildings are exempt.

Scaffolding erected against a building facade for a traditional access survey

Drone survey vs. traditional access

Periodic Facade Inspection is required by law. Traditional access is slow, disruptive, and puts people at height.

A gondola survey of one block means a week of access works, thousands in equipment hire before anyone sees a defect, and a month of noise and blocked balconies.

The risk runs both ways. While the access is up, falling objects and rigging failure sit with the owner. Defer the inspection instead and an unrecorded defect is still your liability the day something falls.

A drone survey does not replace close-range or tactile inspection where the engineer calls for it.

How the project runs

Facade inspection questions

Yes, as the survey stage, not as the whole inspection. The Competent Person remains responsible for the inspection and endorses the report; the drone provides the photographic record they assess, and they decide where close-range or tactile verification is still required.

Half a day to a day of flying, then 3–5 working days to process and map defects and a further 3–5 working days for engineering review and endorsement.

Every defect is located against the elevation grid, classified and entered into a register. The Professional Engineer reviews the register, decides which items need close-range verification, and the report states what must be rectified and in what order. We can refer rope-access and repair contractors from our network.

Often yes, with clearance, and it adds lead time. Sites inside restricted or aerodrome airspace need additional approval on top of the standard activity permit. Budget 2–4 weeks rather than 5–10 working days. We tell you at enquiry if a site is unlikely to be cleared.

Yes. We draft the resident notice for management to issue: dates, flight window, what will be photographed and what will not, and a contact for questions. Capture is limited to the building envelope.

Send us the building address and inspection due date.
